Interpretation: Day 3/4

EDIT:

Here's a version with a texture thrown behind it. Not exactly the texture I had in mind, but it'll work until I can get a scan of what I want.

----

Didn't get much done today. Finalized the photos and color, which I got by using Color Burn on a scan of a watercolor piece I did.

  1. With all of the great textures you have in this piece it would be nice to see it on a papery background too. It kind of makes the white background look too perfect. It took me quite a while to figure out what this thing actually says. Is this for a poster or would it have supplementary type that is more legible? It really is a great typographic piece if put into the right context.

  2. Yes, I was hoping to put some kind of texture in the background. I thought about scanning in some of our paper we've made in Papermaking; it's got a pretty cool texture, but I'm not sure if my scanner is good enough to pick it up (if not I'll have to swing by the lab sometime). As far as legibility, yeah, it turned out a little hard to read. I tried to make it legible in the beginning, but the more I messed around with it, the more it got away from that. So in this case, yeah, I think it would definitely have to have some kind of supplementary type if it were used for a poster or something (or maybe a graphic for something like a magazine article, where additional type would be a more obvious inclusion). We had talked at one point about printing some stickers on clear sticker paper, which this might be usable for. In that case, the background would take on the texture of whatever was behind it. I think that might be interesting to try out.

  3. Just call it art and don't worry about legibility. It's too cool to make it something that it is not.

  4. I like the texture. Perhaps choosing a color for it. Maybe you could even try doing a gradient mask on it so that it fades to nothing near the bottom and puts the emphasis back on the text.
